Our U21s played Ahane in the group stages on Thursday 27th March in Martinstown under lights. Almost from the throw-in we got a twenty one yard free. Everyone thought this was going over the bar but Darragh O’Donovan went for a goal which Ahane couldn’t keep out. Our full forward line benefited from a great supply of ball from their teammates and in the process racked up the scores. Pat Ryan got 1-1, Dean Coleman 0-3 and Barry Murphy 0-3. Darragh O’Donovan also added a pointed free. As the half wore on our concentration seemed to slip and Ahane battled their way back into the game. At half time the score was 2-8 to 0-9.

Ahane also started the second half brightly and Eoghan McNamara had to make a great save. Soon after though they did get a goal and it looked like they had the momentum. However the decisive score came when Dean Coleman caught a high ball, rounded his man and placed it in the top corner.

We had two players injured Stephen Ryan and Jack Cummins and we wish them well in their recovery. Colm O’Cummin and Raymond Ryan came in to the team and both played well.

It finished 3-14 to 1-13.
