Premier Minor Hurling Championship - Doon v Na Fianna

After a 12 week break from competitive action, Doon’s Minor Championship campaign re-started last night with a win over Na Fianna by a 7 point margin - 1-12 to 1-5.

A competitive contest would well describe this game, but just 6 shots in total were on target in the opening half – 4 points to Doon and 2 to Na Fianna. A strong breeze resulted in too many of Doon’s shots head to the right of the post in the first 30 minutes.

Both teams stepped it up a notch in the second half. Na Fianna’s goal came not long after the break and put them in a good position trailing by just a point, but Doon pushed ahead soon after with two Dean Coleman points, a point from mid-field’s Patrick Cummins; all topped off by a Pat Ryan goal. Both goalies put in good performances as they were called on a lot throughout the game with plenty of short dropping balls and shots directly on goal.

This was the third round of the championship and Doon have so far kept a 100% win record with earlier wins over Adare and Kildimo/Pallaskenry. Not much time to rest though with their next game away against Na Piarsaigh this Friday evening at 7.30.
