With just 2 rest days after our County League semi-final victory, our Junior B team played the County Final on Friday evening last (27th June) against Blackrock in Kilmallock. A Ger Beary free ensured a point with less than a minute on the clock. Beary was denied a goal just 8 minutes later when he took his chance with a close-range free. Kevin Lenihan was quick off the re-bound to hit the back of the net though and we were up 1-1 to 0-2. The rest of the half was very evenly matched and ended 1-6 to 0-7 in our favour.
Having been denied a goal on the stroke of half time, corner forward Shane McKenna wasted no time as the second half started and secured a point just a few seconds into it. We stayed 3 to 4 points ahead for most of the half, but the threat of a Blackrock goal always loomed. On the 29th minute, a Seamie Ryan point put us 1-14 to 0-12 in the lead and just a few seconds into injury time Ryan got a cracking goal to end the game. With 8 Doon players getting their names of the scoresheet, it was a great team performance on the night. Final score Doon 2-15 Blackrock 0-12. Well done and congratulations to team manager Mike, selectors, captain Eddie and all involved with this ever-successful Junior B team. Just a few weeks now to our first East Championship game against Cappamore.
