East Junior B Hurling League Round 1. Doon v Cappamore. It was a great, competitive contest considering it was the first of the season for both these Junior B teams in Cappamore last night. Cappamore fired ahead with a goal and a point within the first 2 minutes of the game, but rather than put their heads down Doon rallied immediately and put 5 points over on the trot -2 from Shane McKenna, 1 from midfield’s Ger Crowe and 2 frees from Denis Barry. Thanks to some superb team work, Bobby Ryan hit the back of the net at 20 minutes followed immediately by two long-range points by Tom Murphy at centre back and again Ger Crowe. Having held our neighbours scoreless for 22 minutes we conceded a point from a free near the end of the first half, and played out the last five minutes excitingly demanding 3 quick-as-lightening goal-mouth saves from the Cappamore backs and goalkeeper. A good 5 point lead readied us for the second half but after securing just one point in the first 20 minutes of the half, Cappamore started to catch our lead with a goal & 2 points. Leading by just a single point, sub Shane Brennan pointed putting 2 between us. As points were exchanged in the last five minutes, it was Doon whose favour the final whistle landed on and by just one point we had the victory. Final score Doon 1-10 Cappamore 2-6. Great displays from the entire Doon team as they look forward to their second league game against Murroe Boher in Doon on Tuesday evening (16th) at 6.45pm
