Disappointment for Junior A

There was serious disappointment for our Junior A’s in the East League Final last night, where we were beaten by a single point by Kilteely/Dromkeen after a tough, physical game which ended in a draw leading to extra time.

There was nothing too exciting to report from the first sixty minutes in Cappamore, when the ref blew it up at 12 points a piece. Both teams had good spells throughout the game. The furthest lead gained was Doon getting 3 unanswered points at the outset, but after that both teams kept the heads down getting good scores and there was no more than two between them at any time for the rest of the sixty minutes. The momentum swung from one team to the other on a number of occasions throughout and you couldn’t have picked a winner. Heading towards the end of the second half Doon had a 2 point lead (0-12 to 0-10), but Kilteely/Dromkeen were awarded two frees from a short enough range that they were easily scored and that’s when the ref called time.

The extra time played was a totally different game to what we had seen previously with loads of action. The first ten minutes saw Doon storm ahead with a goal and 2 points, and conceding one goal at the very end of the half. You would have been forgiven for thinking that Doon might have had the edge at this stage with a great performance, but that two point lead wasn’t enough to win it for us. Kilteely/Dromkeen got two more goals in the second half and our response of three points left us one short in the end. We lost out by just one point 3-12 to 1-17
