Martin Hannan is my name ,I’m a Limerick man and national volunteer with Cycle Against Suicide Ireland.
On Monday April 27th we embark on a 14 day awareness journey from Belfast ,cycling around the island of Ireland ,ending in Dublin on Sunday May 10th, covering 1,400 kms.
I’m contacting you in my capacity as coordinator for the Limerick stop on 2nd May of this event.
Cycle Against Suicide is an initiative started by Irish entrepreneur, Jim Breen, as a result of his appearance on RTE’s The Secret Millionaire programme. The main objective of the Cycle is to raise awareness of the considerable help and supports that are available for anyone battling depression, self-harm, at risk of suicide or those bereaved by suicide.
We understand that this is a complex fight and we remain positive and optimistic that a multi-level approach based on the promotion of help-seeking behaviour can result in a reduction in the number of suicides on the island of Ireland
The Cycle Against Suicide community is determined to reach people in every corner of the island of Ireland to let them know that; it’s OK not to feel OK and it’s absolutely OK to ask for helpTogether, shoulder to shoulder, we can break the cycle of suicide on the island of Ireland.
My request to your club and members
On Saturday May 2nd the Cycle (500-600 cyclists ) will travel from Birr and arrive into Limerick at 5pm approx. We are looking for 300 beds to host some of the participants of Cycle Against Suicide.
To play your part in helping to spread the message that ‘it's ok not to feel ok; and it's absolutely ok to ask for help', there a few ways I’m asking for your help through your GAA club
·         Homestays – A room for the night . (See attachment). Collect the cyclist from Limerick, give them a bed for the night, breakfast and drop them back in following morning.
·         Like and share our Facebook Event
·         Promote our event through your club network highlighting our need for Homestays, volunteers or help with providing food,
·         Put up posters. I can send them out to you.
·         Sign up to partake in the cycle or come out and support us on the Day.
