A bad result for Doon last night in Claughan as the Seniors went down to Emmetts in the first round of the Senior championship, 1-16 to 1-10. The Doon lads never seemed to get out of the blocks last night and were always trailing the men from the South. All eyes now turn to Caherconlish next Friday where we face our great rivals Ahane in the second round which is now effectively a do or die match for Doon in the Championship. Lets hope the lads can up the performance and do themselves proud on Friday.

PRO Match Report for Limerick Leader

"Our senior boys were beaten in the first round of the championship against Emmets on Sunday evening in Claughaun. After five months of hard work the wheels seemed to become unstuck. Doon started with the breeze and with Mike McKenna, Michael Ryan and Eddie Stapleton passing a late fitness test things seemed to be going well for Doon. However from the off Emmets were lively and put our backs to a real test. Denis Moloney, Don Anderson and Seamus Barry stood firmestagainst the pressure. Up front Mike Fitzgerald was our real danger man and every time he got on the ball there was real excitement among Doon supporters. Mike was also responsible for the frees and only erred on one occassion in the first half. However a dropping free from anb Emmets free found the net in the 25th minute and this meant Doon went in at half time trailing by five.
In the second half Doon started brighthly but again Emmets put on the pressure. After ten minutes Doon made their first substitution in bringing on minor star Ger McPartland and Eoin Fitzbibbon. They were soon followed by Thomas McLoughlin and Derek Ryan. Mike Fitz again struck with a great goal towards the end of the game but this was to prove to little. Emmets ran out winners on the nightr 1-16 to 1-10"
